How many items do you have on your to-do list? How many do you realistically think will be accomplished, today? We’ve all got lists, to-do’s, honey-do’s, get it done today lists. There is always something to be done, but what if we kept a list of things that we can finish in our our joyful, peaceful, contented moments?
Let’s call it the accomplishment list.
When one of the ladies at my local library mentioned a accomplishment list, I told her that it would make a great blog post, and that I was going to write about it soon, which is now months later but that’s how life goes.
The post about the accomplishment list has been there niggling at the back of my mind for a long time. I dreamt about it, imagine, getting out of bed, making your accomplishment list as you sip your morning coffee. The very first item could be #1 drink coffee, wow, one item finished and you haven’t even woken up fully yet.
The next on the list might be #2. listen to the birds for a few minutes before jumping out of bed.
Mark that one off too, look at you, you just finished two items on your list. How are you liking this so far? It’s a great idea, you can also slip in a few to do’s that you have already accomplished, such as maybe decide on something for dinner, done. Laugh a really good laugh, tick, feed the cat, double checked, go for a walk, tick.
#3 watch sunset with loved ones, now there’s a to-do that you can really get into.
Maybe you don’t have time to accomplish everything on your list today, don’t worry, these kind of accomplishments can be happily carried over to the next day and form the basis of your new list. If you have a to do list, and a accomplishment list, they can be merged into one list.
Imagine how much more interesting it will be to accomplish #7 read a few pages of the new book before bed. Or #5, stop and take 10 deep calming breaths.
Take a look at your list, think of how much you are accomplishing, living life beyond the lines. I especially love this one on my list #12 take photos of the garden when the light is golden and long.
I’ll be sure to do that tonight.
