For the last few years I’ve searched for an elusive answer to the question “what kind of Bloggers are we” it’s been hard to figure out. Being defined by our style of blogging isn’t new, there are many categories of bloggers.
We’ve got fashion bloggers, food bloggers, professional bloggers, lifestyle bloggers, but none of those terms feel like a good fit.
They’re too tight, or ill fitting, not all that flattering, so I’m trying on “reflective blogger” for the next little while to see how it feels.
I’d like to describe reflective bloggers as those who share thoughts, feelings, musings, and happenings in life, while blogging about many different subjects. We might be referred to as personal bloggers but it feels too…intensely personal, like we are journalling online just for ourselves, which isn’t what we do.
What type of blogger am I? And what type of blogger do you feel you are?
If you’re happy without checking that sub-box no problem, it’s great, but if you’re curious, and willing to explore please chime in, because I’d like your comments on whether Reflective Bloggers describes the type of bloggers that we are.
Middle aged, mostly female, seeking to build communities among our readers, and putting effort into our posts and images.
I’ve been owning my words, my images, my thoughts as a blogger for the last little while. I own my mistakes, and my flops, [although I’m still deleting frivolous posts occasionally]. And I’m proud to say I also own my successful posts, and all of my hard work, along with my skills as a photographer that I have worked on over the years.
Let’s all do that, acknowledge that we work hard at this thing we call blogging. That we spend hours drafting, polishing, refining our posts, and our images, and we need to be proud of ourselves.
It’s given me this urge to define my box, tick off that square, decide what my vision of what my blog should be. I’m not a Mommy blogger, a fashion blogger, a food blogger, I’m not even sure that I am a lifestyle blogger.
This isn’t that niche thing…naked, none, missing niche.
A niche is a very specific topic. This is trying to get a definition of what type of blogger I am, which route to take, a map to follow, and if I know where I’m going you get better posts, because I know what I’m going to write when I sit down to blog.
Explore was/is my word for 2015
Visit, learn, seek out new ideas, new thoughts, and figure this all out.
I’m doing just that.
